Our Process

  • Harvest

Over the years and generations commoners, peasants and farmers maintain traditional beliefs for how to cutt Guadua or other bamboo species. Today scientifically proven that the phases of the moon affect on water bodies and specifically to the oceans and seas as bamboo.

Because of these factors our suppliers have a harvest period that determines the lunar phase lost moon, about 7 days, because in this period stems guadúa among the basal internodes and a half have no water or minimal. Containing fewer liquid moisture is lower, this helps the stems have less risk of rot, fungus infection and microorganisms.

  • Cleaning & Punctured

Once transported the bamboo to our treatment plant, it is necessary to wash them to remove impurities like mud, dirt and stains from white lichens which is normal when the bamboo reaches to a maturity. This process is to avoid contaminating the preservative impurities liquid. It is necessary to pierce the eardrums internal of Guadúas so that the chemical is introduced into the beam, to obtain a better preservation of it. This process is done with a steel rod 3/4 inches having an arrow-shaped tip to easily break the eardrum.

  • Preservation

There are many methods of preservation for bamboo, we use one of the most efficient methods, immersion. The sole purpose of preserving the material is to prolong the life of the product, making him immune to attack by microorganisms and insects xenophiles. Preservative agents we use in Guadúas are salts of borax and boric acid diluted in water. The ratio used is 2kg Borax Boric Acid + 2kg 100 lt water.

  • Drying

The drying process is divided into 3 phases. The first phase of the bamboo rods are subjected to drying by an oven at temperatures no greater than 50c for a period of approximately 72 hours, at which time the humidity bamboo will reach a 30-25%. The second phase is done in drying yards outdoors, getting direct sunlight, in this process the bamboo poles acquire their characteristic yellow color thanks to the kindness of the sun.

As third phase bamboo rods are stored in sheds indoors with good ventilation to complete their drying at an average of 14% humidity. This secures a dry material and does not suffer cracks and deformations.
